Hi there, everybody!
Well, maybe you should try guessing who i am because i'm neither Walden nor Joanne. No prizes for guessing the right answer but i bet it will give you a sense of satisfaction! So, go on guessing then! No clues given.
OK, time for something serious.
As we all know, SYF 2009 is coming in 4 months time. It isn't a very long time and neither is it short. Many things can happen during this 4 months and what you do matters because, it might just make a difference in everything, be it positive or negative.
During this 4 months, if we do practice VERY VERY VERY hard and everyone takes up responsibility towards achieving what we all want, we are sure to succeed. There's no such thing as a free lunch, we have to work for it. Same thing, there's no GOLD without hard work. But, practicing hard also means practicing the right thing. Practice does not make perfect. Only practicing correctly gives you perfect results.
Sec 1s, please do not think that you've got another chance in SYF so you can actually miss this. Sometime later, you might regret the decision that you've made because, every 1 point in your CCA WILL make a difference. It might just be that 1 point for you to score an A1 or that 1 point that determines your future. CCA does make a difference in the career path that you want to go. Who knows, you might be that famous guitarist 10 years down the road. Don't laugh, everything is possible.
For the Sec 2s and Sec 3s, please please please PRACTICE! It's you last year going for SYF. I don't think you can afford to miss this. Just practice the guitar like nobody business for the last time and achieve what everybody wants. It's for your own good. Don't stop when your finger hurts. Practice even more. Now, stop saying "crazy" to your computer screen. It's not good to talk to yourself or you might end up the crazy one.
Mr Yeo have been saying, "Memorise your score, memorise your song. Next week cannot look at score."
Now, I'll teach you the right way of memorising it. It's free of charge you know.
There is 2 ways of memorising. Effective or Rubbish.
Memorising in an effective way means memorise with understanding while memorising in a rubbish way means memorise for the sake of memorising.
When it comes to music, you don't stare at the score and pray that the notes get into your head. That is total rubbish because you wouldn't understand a single thing at all. Even if it does get into your head, do you think you can get into the music? It's a same case scenario as memorising your spelling for the sake of memorising. You'll realise that you will never use the words that you "learn".
The effective way of memorising effectively is to practice your parts till you realise that you can remember it and play perfectly without refering to the scores. That, is the effective way of memorising. When you can play without refering to the scores, it means that you understand the music. Understanding the music is very important because it leads to body movements. Body movements that comes naturally.
If you can tap your feets and nod your head like a human being on drug while listening to heavy metal, you can do the same while playing the guitar but obviously not moving that vigurously. These are call body movements. You sway to the music. Not move artifically. It will come naturally to you if you do understand the music. I can't teach you how to understand music, you've got to infer from what you had listen.
I do hope that these text did helped you somehow whether it's for decision making or improving your ways of memorising. If you disagree to what i've said in any part of this post, slap yourself you can comment about it in the tagboard. I'll try my very best to see what's wrong with what i've typed.
Alright, thanks for reading people! Let's work hard to achieve our goal!
PS. Don't forget to practice your guitar!!!!!!!!! PPS. Don't forget your holiday homework too!!!!!!! PPPS. Walden and Joanne should know who i am, but just don't spoil the fun. Thanks a lot!!!!! PPPPS. Do i get an award for posting the longest post ever?
People who fail are those without goals.
